Nurses are everywhere. The rich tradition of nursing advances into a forward thinking future. Portraits and words of hundreds of nurses throughout the city are integrated into the triptych, alongside historical nursing imagery and modern medical symbols.

In this mural, the previously unexplored relationship between paint and LED light generates remarkable effects. Glowing imagery transforms the recessed portions that separate the three panels, at times appearing and disappearing, suggesting an animated dreamscape.

Faces appear and vanish. Technology renders apparent the hidden inner workings of the human body just beneath the skin’s surface just as the building behind the exterior walls is revealed.

The Evolving Face of Nursing is a narrative that begins with the bygone days of starched uniforms and hats, and moves to the story of present day nurses who take on increasing responsibility, practicing with knowledge, skill and care.
